Parker's Cub Scout pack had a Space Derby. No one had ever done one before, so this was a new experience. Papa Bruce came over to help Parker design and shape his balsa wood rocket. The fins kept falling off, and having to be re-glued.
The rockets are attached to a fishing line, their propellers are wound up, then they race to see which one goes the farthest. Here comes Parker's on a trial run.
Each boy is supposed to race about four or five times. However, this being the first time anyone had attempted one of these derbies, there were technical difficulties. It took so long to get each race set up, that the boys settled for each racing only twice, and declaring everyone a winner. Then we had award time. Parker received his Wolf, and a gold and silver arrow point. Yay, Parker!
