London's Police Car Ride

Let's clear something up. For the record, London did NOT get arrested. That seems to be the rumor going around at school... Here's what actually happened. It snowed last night. The kids on the playground were having a snowball fight before school. London has good aim, and pegged a boy. He got mad and tried to push her down. She didn't fall. She pushed him back. He fell. So they both got sent to the Principal's office, where they were told to apologize to each other.  If the story had stopped here, in wouldn't be any big deal. However, while the boy apologized straightaway, and was sent back to class, London dug in her heels and refused to apologize, believing her actions justified. The Principal called Brent, who talked to London, and she agreed to apologize. But then she didn't. After stubbornly refusing to talk to anyone for the next two hours, the Principal had her escorted home by the police officer assigned to the school. The Principal told me he'd seen stubborness before, but NOTHING compared to London. Welcome to my world.
What's my position on all of this? Some parents out there may dislike me for this, but honestly, he pushed her first, and when confronted with a bully, I don't feel my children should passively roll over and become victims. My position is: We don't start fights, but we sure can finish them. You shouldn't bite off more than you can chew. Having said that, she should have just obeyed the principal, swalowed her pride, apologized even if she didn't mean it, and gone back to class.

I completely agree. Great story.

I totally agree with the bully thing. We teach our kids the same thing about not starting fights but ALWAYS standing up for yourself. Bullies don't know what to do when they come across someone willing to stand up for themselves.
