Today was Brooklyn and Braden's last day of school at Cedar Ridge Elementary. I'll be withdrawing them on Monday. Brooklyn needs one-on-one attention in order to get caught up on her math skills, and I have decided to take on that responsibility. She has been in public school in Utah for the last 2-1/2 years, and has not had any problems, but here in Georgia I'm told she is behind on her math and doesn't know the proper format for taking her language arts CRCT's. Rather than try to catch her up this late in the year, her teachers want to retain her in the fourth grade next year, so that she can start from scratch. This is what we get for moving across the country mid-year. She comes home in tears every day and says feels like a failure. I had to explain to her that she is NOT a failure. SHE HAS BEEN FAILED. She is a very bright child, fully capable of learning whatever teachers are willing to teach her. She just needs someone who is willing to invest in her. That's where I come in.
I figured I might as well pull Braden out and homeschool him too. That way he isn't going to school on the bus alone, and we can have awesome family field trips together. Homeschooling is so time-consuming, but I really feel that this is the right move for our family at this time.
