I Voted Today.

I took the kids with me so that they could see me vote. I explained all about voting and how it is our responsibility to vote to show our gratitude to Heavenly Father as well as to our military, both past and present, for the free country that we live in. There was supposedly record turnout at the polls. I went at 10:30 a.m., in the hopes that most people would be at work, and there was no wait at all. I was the 516th person to put my ballot in the machine.

My polling place was only one mile from the house, which was good, because when we got there, I discovered that Preston only had one shoe on, and we had to stop back by the house before continuing on to Luke AFB to get my ID renewed and get groceries at the commissary. Only one shoe?! He said he couldn't find his other sandal, so instead of asking for help finding it, or wearing his sneakers instead, he just went without it. This is the 3rd time he has done this. Although usually he doesn't even have one shoe on. It's ridiculous. He'll wait until we are about halfway to the airport (to pick up Brent back in June, for instance) to tell me that he doesn't have any shoes on. Parker asked to stay up to watch the election results with me. It turned out that we didn't have to wait long before it was confirmed that Obama would be the next president. Parker really took the news hard. He has always been an adult trapped in that kid's body. He worries a lot, about things that he can't control. The kids and I had helped hang doorhangers for Prop 102, the marriage amendment, and I was really glad to see that it passed.
